Final Visions

A Field Theory project

Final Visions – Bunker (2017) transformed the Australian Center for Contemporary Art (ACCA) into a survivalist storeroom and community center. Developed by artist collective Field Theory for the exhibition Greater Together, the project staged a series of live “Survival Sessions” exploring how communities might endure, and even thrive in the face of collapse.

Every second Saturday throughout the show’s run, the gallery became an active bunker, hosting workshops and live interviews with Melbourne’s special interest clubs: foragers, anarchists, amateur radio operators, permaculturists, preppers, weavers, UFO enthusiasts, climbers, and more. These groups brought their own visions of resilience, resistance, and resourcefulness into the space. They offered practical skills, speculative knowledge, and improvised responses to the question: What does it really mean to be prepared?

Blending performance, installation and civic dialogue, Final Visions was both a rehearsal for survival and a portrait of Melbourne’s diverse subcultures. It asked what communities we turn to in times of disruption, and what tools - material, social and emotional, we might need to reassemble the world.
