Heavy Congress
Heavy Congress (RISING, 2022) was a landmark collaboration with Melbourne’s sound system community. Conceived by Jason Maling with reggae ambassador Stick Mareebo and Northside Records’ Chris Gill, the project culminated in an epic live gathering at the Forum Theatre (Melbourne) with ten towering, hand-built systems representing multiple genres. The largest assembly of its kind anywhere in the world, the event baptized the audience in bass while turning the venue into a cathedral of vibration and community. More than a concert, Heavy Congress was a total cultural moment: a one-night sonic summit, a 7-inch vinyl release and a film documenting the history of sound system culture in Australia.
