Single Channel Video
A performance project made in collaboration with Back to Back Theatre community members. (Geelong White Night 2018; Rising Festival, Melbourne 2022)
In a gallery space dominated by a floor-to-ceiling projection, a shifting showcase of everyday objects takes center stage. Narrated by an unseen voice, the work frames ordinary people presenting to camera what matters most to them - objects carefully held, described, and questioned for the stories they carry.
Single Channel Video is an evolving catalogue of banality: a DIY search for meaning in the totems of daily life. It is a power play between self, object, and viewer, oscillating between the heartbreaking, the curious, and the downright odd.
Like a disclosure from the deep recesses of the internet, the work unfolds as a flea market of backstories, a late-night infomercial of perpetual desire and non-fulfilment. This durational performance dismantles the surface to reveal the profound that hides in the banal. In every ‘thing’ we see ourselves reflected - appraised, discussed, and ultimately set aside.
