Vanitas
Hidden in plain sight at the centre of a 300 year old painting lurks a mysterious void that promises oblivion to those who stare too intently. Somewhere near the centre of the cemetery a woman waits with a promise to explain the meaning of a mysterious flower delivery.
Vanitas is a haunting, transmedia exploration of death, memory, and the subtle poetry of loss - experienced through your smartphone, woven among gravestones, and carried in whispers of floral symbolism.
A collaboration with artist Robert Walton, this immersive work invites you on a solo, contemplative walk through historic cemeteries, guided by podcast-style audio, fragmented interviews and SMS interruptions. Drawing inspiration from 17th-century Dutch vanitas paintings it reanimates the language of memento mori, blending documentary, fiction, and sensory experience.
Part thriller, part meditation, experiencing Vanitas is to be gently drawn into the spaces between presence and absence, past and now. It is an invitation to listen to the rustle of petals, the echo of history, and the hush of mortality and meaning around us.
